Every politician's commercial I've seen ends with "I'm State-Your-Name, and I approved this message."
Ah, that's right. You're in Australia. Over here, this year anyway, most radio and TV campaign commercials end with the voice of the candidate saying "I'm So-and-So, and I approved this message." I think it's so you'll know the commercial was made by the candidate's own campaign staff and not some whacko who thinks So-and-So ought to be President. Back in 2000, there were a lot of ads made by whackos apparently, and the candidates were getting blamed for it.

BTW, just out of curiosity, what years do they have elections for Prime Minister over there?

Pretty much the same coalition formed the previous administration, which held a whopping 87 days...the shortest amount of time since WW2

Nope. I've seen them all over the place. "Hello, I'm generic office hopeful and I approve this message."

I found this strip rather funny
