Strange. Does to me. "the detail slightly darker than everything else" tends to be the only thing I notice on engravings.

Actually, the telltale signs of an engraving are the deep shadows and light effects on the inner edge of the letter, oriented so that the shadows are on the sides facing the light source. (On emboss, the shadows are opposite)
