There's probably already a topic about this, but I'm too lazy to dig it up. What kind of rig is everyone running? My current computer: Case: Raidmax ATX form 19"x21" tower with 6 internal fans. CPU: AMD Athlon XP 3200+ Motherboard: SOYO KT880 Dragon 2 Vid Card: ATI Radeon 9800pro 256mb 256bit Memory: 1 gig Hard Drive: Maxtor 120GB Monitor: 15" Rosewill LCD screen ANNNNNNDDDDD For christmas, I'm getting new components! CPU: AMD Athlon X2 3800+ Dual Core processor Motherboard: eVGA NVIDIA nForce4 SLI ATX (Yes. Well, you did ask for it . . . I am currently running a networked system. My main desk terminal: Compaq Presario 2700T Notebook Pent III, 1.06 GHz 1.0 GB RAM, 30 GB HD (NTFS) 15" screen, 1400 X 1050 pixels WinXP Pro SP2 My main runabout portable: IBM ThinkPad 600X Notebook Pent III, 647 MHz 576 MB RAM, 40 GB HD (FAT32) 13" screen, 1024 X 768 pix. Win2000 Pro SP4 Fileshare and Printshare: Dell OptiPlex GX1 Pent II, 349 MHz 128 MB Ram, 80 GB HD (NTFS, 4 partitions) Nokia Multigraph 447Za 15" CRT, 1024 X 768 pix. (ex-office, nice monitor for the $5 I paid at a rummage sale) Win2000 Pro SP4 Networking: Linksys BEFW11S4 Wireless-B router supplemented with a Netgear 5 port switch, various Linksys and Siemens Wireless-B Notebook adapters, Xircom and Trendnet rj45 ethernet cards, and lots of wire . . .

My boxen is good in places and bad in places... my computer is a peice of crap. It run's fine for a computer from 2003 or whenever I got it, but some of the hardware is not compatable with nearly any distrobution of any operating system than windows unless you feel like spending hours extra making it work. ...that's really all you need to know about it. I want to get a new laptop for christmas.

Not that I understand what all those abbreviations and numbers mean but, how do you get all the specs? Are they written somewhere in the computer? Richard, when I saw your comment about laptops your avatar was miserable.png. Very apt for what you said.

An even better place to lookin Windows is "System Information", which usually resides somewhere like this: Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Information And yes, I tend to agree. Linux is hard to get to work on laptops . . . there's almost always one more device driver to find, unless you're willing to use a big name company distro like SUSE.
