A little about me.

I've been reading O&M for about 2-3 years now. I started in 2001-2, stopped for awhile, but I've gotten got back into it recently. I'm probably one of the three O&M fans in exsistance that has never read Calvin and Hobbes, and probanly never plans to.

I've been on the O&M mailing list a jhoover37722, took myself off, recently put myself back on, relaized not one of my posts were going though, said screw it, and found this place a few days later.

Welcome to the forums. Sit down, relax, and try not to be ignited.

There's several subculture references here, I'll provide you with a few of them:

"rutabegas are cool" - phrase taken from an O&M strip wherein Millie answered "rutabegas are cool" to every multiple choice question. Used in the forum as a statement of randomness. A rutabega is a variety of turnip.
Fire - There seem to be several ... pyromaniacs in here. Just take it in stride if the forum is engulfed in flames. Unless, of course, your monitor catches fire. Then you have reason to worry.
"Flooba" - Another O&M referrence, from when Timulty repeated the word "flooba" continually. This is also used as a statement of randomness.
Insanity - Most people here believe they are mentally unstable. Whether they are serious or not remains to be seen. Thus, there are several refernces to the lack of a poster's sanity, and how this is not a bad thing. Personally, I am quite mad. In the mental sense, of course.

There are other items that may come up in conversation, but the context will most likely make it clear. And of course, don't be afraid to ask.

I've been seriously distracted by two major projects now.

There was a few gaps in O&M while you were not reading anyways. He than started reworking it, and it's quite a bit better now. He seems to have made it so that less educated people can relate to it on a lower level, but there is still intellegent content on a much higher plane. I really like it! Nicely done. I know I'm going to get a serious beating for this, but ATHF does this in a much different manner. (Don't get into the arguement. I just have to say they hide subtile intellectual jokes all over ATHF, often withen hidden layers very trivial "Frat humor" jokes. My favorite is the "bag of secrets of the Universe" That was the most zen statement put in a most unzen manner I have ever seen.)

As far as being like either Ozy or Millie, neither. I've yet to find a fictional character in any medium that I can relate to.

And yeah, I read about the dumbing down of Ozy and Millie. Can't say I've noticed it, really. Not going to comment on my opion of it though.
