The main characters of the comic are Ozy and Millie. Not Avery, or Timulty, or Stephen. Ozy and Millie's personal and family situations would then be, in theory, more focused on then secondary characters. A parent of a secondary character would only appear when it was convenient for DCS. I don't think DCS himself has given it much thought, unless he's planning a storyline that directly involves Avery's parents or Stephen's parents.

A while back, I came across this strip. Notice Millie says "parents". Of course, this was an early 1998 strip, and one would persume that DCS hadn't thought that far ahead. Who's to say he's given much thought to, say, Stephen's mom? It's just something that slipped by unnoticed, until now.

Yes, true, but that was waaay back before Millie had even met Locke. Before she had even learned that Locke was her father. Theoretically speaking, If she was the child of a single parent, then it should only be she and her mother. At that point in time there was no Locke. And yet she said "parents".

So you see, DCS had not thought that far ahead.

Besides, I don't see how Millie would have to try and convince her ten-year-old father to stay up till 9:30. If anything, Ms. Mudd would see to it that he had no say, since having the maturity of a ten-year-old would most likely hinder any logical solution, rather then help resolve it.

I'm thinking maybe David had planned for Millie to have to adult parents, but then realized (1) he hadn't drawn Mr. Mudd into the strip yet, and (2) there were enough characters already, and having two Mudd parents would be if anything redundant. I wouldn't really be surprised if, somewhere in David's closet, is a drawing of the Mr. Mudd that never was. And for some odd reason, I'm betting he had a mustache.

If you've done things right, people won't be sure if you've done anything at all.

As inferred in this strip (and already pointed out by Talitha), Millie has a mom and a dad. That's the Mr.-Mudd-who-never-was I'm referring to and would like to see.
