Everybody should just draw for fun. When I draw, I just think of some image that I think would be cool to look at and then just put it on paper.
Actually riceeatingtiger, though that way of thinking generally applies to all, or should apply to all, i think the more dedicated and serious cartoonists feel a sense of devotion and need to create their work. This is like an added layer to the fun you should have from drawing. Draw what you like but when you get into a schedule things get a bit more complicated.

That is the point of this topic, by the way; posting drawings we made just for fun. I would really like to see people who aren't really used to drawing just give it a try and have fun with it, and not let themselves feel threatened by technicalities or the skill of others. The only thing that sets the others apart is practice, and that's what I'd like this area to encourage.

So go on, post away to your heart's content. It is really easy to approach (pencils, pens and paper are virtually always easy to get), it is fun to do, and it is a delight to share.

EDIT:

Quote: (Jacob @ Sep 4 2004, 01:23 PM)

Actually riceeatingtiger, though that way of thinking generally applies to all, or should apply to all, i think the more dedicated and serious cartoonists feel a sense of devotion and need to create their work. I'm not looking for people to become syndicated cartoonists. I'm looking for people to give drawing a try for the fun of it because it is a lot easier than they think.

There is a sense of devotion, I agree. I mean when an artwork becomes alive, the artist would naturally want to nurture it. I would feel just as close to some of my favorite characters as I would to some of my dearest friends, and to fail at sustaining something so dear would be as great a loss.

I feel that sticking to a schedule for the sake of sticking to it cheapens the art. Many long-standing comic strips suffer in this lifeless state. Once the fun and pleasure from making a comic strip disappears, it becomes stale, and it is just as unfortunate as if it died suddenly in a disaster (like when an cartoonist is unable to hold a hand steady anymore).

Keep in mind i'm a crazy perfectionist who won't rest till every millimetre of his finished art is up to his standards.

I didn't want to change how anyone drew or how they did it, of course it should be fun.

I'm in the process of switching domains. When I'm not so tired I'll go fix all the broken links.
