Well I have all the books and I wish I was kidding with this, but they are almost exactly the same size as garfield books. The first 3 are a bit smaller, 4 and 5 are a bit bigger.
Anami: Sex with a giant, black scorpion seems fun.
<SteveThePocket> Geez. I want more of this stuff now. Now I know how a horny guy on an imageboard feels.

I like the sound of Option Three, definitely. I'd buy it the instant it became available. Of course, I'll do that anyway with Book 6, regardless of what's in it.

Quote: ("David Craig Simpson @ his live journal @ 6/14/2004, 8:44am)

I'm pondering the fate of an annual tradition, right now: the annual Ozy and Millie book collection.

Plan Nine Publishing has put out one a year, since 1999, so the sixth one is due out in, if tradition were to hold, November or so. The problem, of course, is that I took all of last fall off, and have been publishing on a limited schedule ever since, so there aren't nearly enough strips. This leaves me with a handful of options.

The most obvious, of course, is just to wait another year until I have enough strips. Of course, there's a certain financial disadvantage to doing that--book sales are about the most reliable way I make money off this strip.

Another option: include the strips from 2004 along with a sort of annotated "best of" collection. But the truth is I'd kind of like to save that for when the strip actually ends, a day that will come but hasn't yet.

There's a third option, suggested by the publisher guy, one that I think is great, but involves a ton of additional work, for which I would get paid no more than the usual amount (unless, by some lucky coincidence, it caused the book to sell really really well). What I could do is, create a LOT of new material, exclusively for the book. Take the opportunity to escape the four panel format, and do things I couldn't do in the strip--for reasons of length, or style, or content, or whatever. Do a several-page story, all in watercolor. Or all in crayon. Visit Ozy and Millie in high school. Visit Llewellyn doing...I can hardly even imagine, I could visit Llewellyn doing almost anything. Veer into sheer surreality in a way I wouldn't in the strip.

I'm going to give this a shot. Of course, it's possible I'll fall way short, and just end up with three or four extra storylines, to publish on the site or in future books. It's also possible I'll succeed. We'll see. One thing that does seem likely: after this, it's going to be a long, long, long time before I venture outside the usual four panels again

A possible storyline of Ozy and Millie in highschool? This could get interesting.

Why not the adventures of Locke?

For people who wonder about shipping costs, I just order the books through a large store (like Barns & Noble, Borders, etc.), You still get the books but you don't have to worry about shipping.

Important Update

As depicted in Dave's live journal, this is his depiction of what a teenaged Millie might look like. Dave's never done anything like this before, and I know we've all pondered at some point in time about what she might look like. I figured this would be considered quite a milestone, and hence important news. Discuss.

This signature may spontaneously combust at any given moment. Make sure there's a fresh can of gasoline handy.
