And after 9/11/01, we have far more reason to fear the outside world than ever.
People like you are the reason that America has such a poor image.
It's wrong for us to be frightened and angry when we received an unprovoked attack claiming thousands of innocent lives? :?
Being frightened and angry never helped anyone, and nor does a general distrust of the rest of the world. Sure, the events of 9/11 were dreadful and terrible, but they are no justification for fear of, as you put it, 'the outside world'.
If you do not repent, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place. (Revelation 2:5, NIV)

Also, Finland is the best country.
But Finland is always drunk and peeking into sister Sweden's room.

I'm pretty sure I love you.
But how can I compete with your love of roller coasters?

Yes, I was too harsh and I apologize. But my remark about "the global ghetto" isn't too far off. For example, the nuclear showdown between Pakistan and India years ago wasn't anything the USA or anyone else could have stopped. The world was lucky because the two nations themselves elected to stop it. And there's the 1962 Cuban Missle crisis. And Saddam Hussein invaded and occupied Kuwait because he mistakenly assumed he could get away with it.

BTW, anybody besides myself on this board know Christopher Hitchens. Very much not the average leftist. He was a supporter of the second Gulf War.
