I also remember DCS mentioning in the online commentary that s/he was pleasantly surprised at the complete lack of religious backlash.Splashes are really hard to draw. I mean, it's one of those things that's hard even to find a decent photo reference for -- you have to be an excellent photographer even to capture it on film, and then there's the matter of capturing it with ink lines and mostly solid colors, and... trust me, it's really hard. I don't think I did a great job here, but I suppose it's adequate.
The punch line here is definitely an afterthought. I think this strip exists because I wanted an artistic challenge.
I doubt this particular strip could offend the most avid religious fanatics. Unless they would also object to theatrical representations of Biblical stories, such as the three kings coming to see the Christ Child in the manger.Religious types can be touchy and I gather there were a couple real touchy religious types on the olde Ozy and Millie mailing list.
Well, I object to that. What, babby Jesus doesn't deserve more than three kings visiting him? It's those kind of secularist humanist rule of three claptrap which has our country in a downward spiral. And only three gifts? I mean, its only the messiah we're talking about and you only bring three gifts? You had to get directions from an astronomical body for crying out loud! And what's with the robes and sandles? You trying to say Jesus was a hippy? Depict the guy in a suit and some Italian leather shoes! He deserves it. He did die for your sins and become part of a complete breakfast.Unless they would also object to theatrical representations of Biblical stories, such as the three kings coming to see the Christ Child in the manger.
