But you said it was when he had to deliver the flowers to the Forgotten City for Elmyra. It's actually not specified how soon after he started the delivery service that Elmyra asked him to do that.

Nay I just didn't make myself totally clear:

I believe it was when he wasn't around as much and then he had to take the flowers to the Forgotten City and that's when he became distant.

Meaning that the first thing that went wrong was he wasn't around and THEN, on top of that he had to deliver the flowers.
As for how soon well Cloud didn't get his bike until several months after 7th heaven opened. He didn't start his delivery service until then.

And I have to wonder just why he isn't around much. Is he only gone because of the delivery service?

Keep in mind he was getting supplies for Tifa and 7th Heaven too but I'm sure as he began to feel guilty, that had a hand in it too.

Cloud doesn't look too happy there, if you ask me. Yet, you're saying that after Denzel came, Cloud got all happy again.

Anyways I said slowly but surely he was getting there. Key word being slowly. I'm not saying there was this instant super duper happy Cloud guy there... he still had his guilt to deal with. But he was getting better. It takes a long time to recover from a depression like that, it doesn't happen overnight.

I reached my breaking point in Feb 2007, and I STILL have problems sometimes. Cloud found Denzel June 29th and AC/C takes place between November and December I believe. That's about 5-6 months, it would probably take longer than that to fully recover.

Then why did Nojima say the story was written on the premise that there would be problems between Cloud and Tifa?

How do you know Cloud didn't already have Geostigma at the time of that conversation? It's never specified when he got it.

Because the timeline in the 10th Anniversary Ultimania tells us otherwise.

Yes, but several other reasons are given for his departure, too. It also mentions that Cloud's guilt toward being unable to protect people who were important to him is part of the reason he left. Cloud also tells Marlene in ACC that he left the Seventh Heaven to live in the Church because he couldn't take care of himself or anyone else. The Reunion Files says that Cloud starts to distance himself from Tifa and the others because he's unable to forgive himself. Aerith's profile in the 10th Anniversary Ultimania also says that she was a major factor that caused Cloud to close himself off. So Geostigma's not the only reason he left.

Geostigma was basically the straw that broke the camel's back. He was having issues and on top of everything else, he contacted a fatal disease and thought he was useless.

This is the basic timeline.

-Stuff happens... ..err.. yeah beginning of CoT
-Cloud and Tifa and Marlene begin living together
-Cloud is happy living with them, but then begins to think he might not be able to help them if needed
-Cloud starts to become overcome with guilt because of the loss of two people very dear to him that he couldn't protect
-He gets worse and starts to shut himself off. He thinks he's worthless and this brings about problems in the family. He goes to the Church to look for a way to make him for his sin/because he misses Aerith/insert your own reason here.
-He comes across Denzel and thinks that maybe Denzel may be a way to make up for his sin.
-He very slowly starts to get better. He starts spending more time at home and with the kids and such.
-He isn't fully better yet... and when he contacts Geostigma, he leaves.

And if he was happy, why would he leave? Unhappiness is caused by all of the things I listed above. All of those reasons were all happening during CoT.

Yes, you're right, but, it wasn't his family that was causing the unhappiness. It was his guilt which he overcame at the end of AC/C and thus he's able to forgive himself and move on and live with them. They weren't the problem, he was. His past was. The kind of guilt that you get from letter two people very dear to you die... that's not something that can be overcome easily. He's not going to just forget that because his family is there. That's just unrealistic. It was something he had to work out for himself... which he did. That was AC/C

Also keep in mind that Cloud might not have been around a whole lot in the end because he was looking for a cure for Denzel.
