Ok before I continue, I don't know enough about computers to become a member of a tech forum. And googling has resulted in confusing results (searching the internet for the kind of specifics I need aren't helpful). So I'm posing my question here. In case you're wondering what your answer would do for me, well, I'm not completely clueless either. Also my dad knows a fair bit about computers and is good at troubleshooting just about anything so I should be fine. Also so people's eyes aren't killed I decided to make it more legible by using large font (my awful use of paragraphs is no help).
I am having trouble setting up a wireless connection. Specifically adding a new laptop wirelessly to a home network. Here is the main info:

1. Laptop is a HP Pavilion dv9925nr, w/ Vista. It has a built in wireless thingy (don't know the technical name).
2. The wireless router(?)is a Linksys WRT150N Wireless-N using a WEP code as security.

My laptop can detect the network and can "Limitly Connect" to it, but it gains no internet access. Currently I am using the laptop with an ethernet cable, so it does have internet connections.

My question is this... Has anyone had this problem? Or can someone give me a link to a forum topic that explains the process in a clear manner?

Well, sometimes it allows landline to connect but not wireless, but since your dad's wireless works, I guess that's not it.

Yeah, doublecheck that WEP. Doublecheck that you have it set to being a WEP...

Stop using WEP for a start and switch to WPA, firstly it's easier to connect to as it uses passphrases rather then hex and secondly it can't be hacked in 60 seconds.

To change the security settings go to http://192.168.1.1/ when connected to the router via ethernet, go to the wireless security settings and choose wpa. Final thing to check is does YOUR wireless card support the "Wireless N Protocol", if it doesn't you'll never succeed unless you change your router setup to backwards support G and b, which seems pointless buying such an expensive router type for...

Its working . Well, I ended up not using this topic... As with trying to connect and whatnot we lost internet connection entirely. I appreciate everyone who posted however . Unfortunately, we had to start the Linksys setup from scratch, so I can't offer any more advice than that. It did include setting up a new WEP code and the network trying to sign on the same address (not sure which one) at the same time. Or a conflict between the modem and the router. The admins can delete this topic if they want... Or keep it for what help it can give anyone. Thanks again .

About the WPA thing, its not really neccesary, I have no particular things on my computer that hackers would want to get out. Hell, I'm not much of a hacking target, we use DefenderPro which is doing great. Plus I may not be a techie, but my dad is, so I'm sure my network is secure enough. He used it for work to control various functions of EVERY Linens n'Things store from his PC.

That and even if you don't have anything worthwhile I could totally download porn and hog your bandwidth if I was an elite hacker or something.

DS firmwares are non-upgradeable, other than releasing new hardware with new firmwares. There are at least 7 known DS firmwares, but they're all essentially the same with minor differences (firmwares after v3 don't work with the very first homebrew tools, firmware v5 indicates a DS Phat with DS Lite internals and as such can be modded to give you brightness controls, etc). Point is, there are no firmware "upgrades" for DS systems. The new DSi system, which is Japan-only at the moment, has WPA support, but only for DSi-specific stuff. DS games will still be limited to WEP only.

I typed up a large paragraph with some troubleshooting information but just now realized you said you got it fixed. Oh well.
