The Stanley Cup thread

A place to talk about anything (that doesn't belong in the other forums).

Washington has never really been a "hockey town". We're more an NFL town (Redskins have been here since 1937, was in Boston from 1932-1936), and a baseball town (though were without a team from 1977 until 2005)
That's as may be, but the Capitals aren't in the finals.
The Capitals started in the 1974-75 season (won a still-record low 8 games that season) and been to ONE Finals (1998, and got their asses swept by the Red Wings)

I don't know much about hockey, but I'm glad to see the two finalists are from cities that actually have winters and actual hockey fans. None of this Dallas or Tampa Bay or Carolina nonsense.
I'm in full agreement.

OH YAY this place has a hockey thread. I had to create a Stanley Cup thread on two other forums I visit. I wish I had found it sooner so I could post about the Wild... even though they lost :(

I've always kind of liked the Red Wings, but this year I'm rooting for the Penguins seeing as how Pittsburgh is Rob's home town. I ended up getting him into hockey which is weird, usually the man has to get the girl into the sport. XD

Yesterday afternoon, my hometown team, the Philadelphia Flyers, were eliminated from the playoffs in a humiliating 6-0 loss. We are a sad city right now. But even so, we made a whole lot of improvement from last year. We'll be back.
I'm sorry to hear that a Flyers fan was watching that... that was really rough I'm sure. Than god I was rooting for the Pens, but even I thought it was overkill when the Pens fans started with the "Nah nah nah hey hey goodbye" song.

Despite having no affiliation towards them at all, I was kinda pissed when Calgary lost the cup a few years back.

Indeed yes. A Canadian team should win the Cup again.

'Nuff said.

I can't believe how badly the Wings stomped the Pens tonight. That was ridiculous. Penguins had several good chances that just didn't go in however. Still surprising to see that, hopefully the Pens can rebound in game 2, though it is going to be really hard to win a game at the Joe, because as much as I hate to admit it, it's a really intense building to play in.

Roberts needs to get back in the lineup, hopefully Therien realizes this.

No kidding, Rob and I went to Walmart in the middle of the third period. We figured the Pens wouldn't win anyway... I was hoping to come home to find out they had at least scored a freaking goal

IMO, the entire series hinges on how the Pens can rebound in game 2.

OMG you guys! Guess what! The Penguins scored!

it's 1-0 Pens! They're playing so well. THIS is the team that beat Philly 6-0. I'm getting all excited now!

HOORAY! 3-2 OH man you should have seen me during the last five minutes. I'm still shaking I was a total wreck >_<
I couldn't even watch when Detroit had the powerplay. OH wow.. yay, they won. Let's hope they win again and keep it coming.

That was one helluva game. Great hockey to watch, some of the best so far this season. Good on the Pens to finally show some life. Why did they win? Because their best players were their best players. This was a very close match though, unbelievable to watch I may say again.

You owe it to yourself to watch this highlight reel. Even if you're not into hockey. It just might make you a fan: http://www.nhl.tv/team/console.jsp?hlg=20072008,3,413

Dude, there were like six-seven minutes in that game that were the best hockey I've ever seen...literally.

Pens for the win, dude.

It'll be over in 5. Pittsburgh wasn't hungry enough.
