New Contest! That has nothing to do with drawing!

New Contest! That has nothing to do with drawing!

Postby Arloest » Wed Feb 27, 2008 5:48 pm

As we all know, this board has had it's fair share of contests before. However, they've all been art contests, and as such are pretty much reserved only for those who can draw well.

So I present a new contest, an OFFICIAL one and stuff. It is, the most amazing FANTASTIC INTRIGUING contest you have ever heard of.

OR, you have yet to hear of.

I PRESENT:

The Improv-Style Writing Contest!

RULES:
You will be presented with 5 items/places/whatev, and you will have to write a short story that ties all 5 items/places/whatev together. It can be as short as a paragraph long, if you can pull it off. Grammar isn't necessarily an issue, so if you're not that good at writing, it's fine. It just has to make sense and be CREATIVE (and hopefully funny, but I guess dramatic is okay too).

Here are the five terms:

Headphones
Kentucky
Walrus
King of Canadia
The Lion King

Remember, write a short story tying them all together.

You have until next Friday (March 7th) to submit. I will start a submission topic in which everyone can submit their story on that day. NO EARLY ENTRIES MAY BE SUBMITTED PUBLICALLY. If you have to submit it early, send me a PM with your entry. This si to ensure that every story is created completely independently. And really, 9 days is a long time to do this. So don't go lazy on me now.

When all is submitted, a polling topic will be started, and everyone will list their top 3 favorites. The top 5 entries will be determined with this system, and those top 5 will go to a FINALS round, and the 5 finalists will submit a new story featuring 5 new items. And once those 5 are submitted, everyone will private message me their favorite of the five. That way, the winners be a SURPRISE. It's just the best way to go. FiNALISTS CANNOT VOTE. But those who submit a story in the prelims round can!

If there's any questions (which there shouldn't be, I explained this to death) just ask here. Alright, be creative and have FUN. That's what I would do.

***Some guy sitting next to me helped me in writing this. You all wanted and NEEDED to know that. This guy's name is Zac. No 'h'. He is stubborn.

Who sleeps shall awake, greeting the shadows from the sun
Who sleeps shall awake, looking through the window of our lives
Waiting for the moment to arrive...
Show us the silence in the rise,
So that we may someday understand...

Writing is a form of art too, you know.

Also: Dr. Phil blubbered (see: cried) like a walrus when Mufasa died in The Lion King. He then got on his laptop computer and whined about how everyone in Buckingham, Kentucky are inbred hicks who sleep with their cousins.

THE END!

Hey, I can do this!

In my opinion you should have used more general 'items'. I don't know what a couple of those things are, let alone enough to be able to write engagingly about them. Still, I'll give it a shot, for the bizarreness.

Wikipedia is all well and good, but it doesn't convey well the kind of qualities of things which you'd write about. It would be an incredibly dull novel which wrote simply "The walrus lay upon the ice, a large flippered marine mammal with a discontinuous circumpolar distribution, of which I was quite envious, in the Arctic Ocean and sub-Artic seas of this wintry Northern Hemisphere."

I'd read that.

I'd enter this, except that I just recorded a song telling the story of John Lennon including those five words, realised that it was totally inappropriate to enter a writing competition with a song and thus shall have to hang myself to restore honour to my family.

Way to screw up everything. D:< And about the art, quit being overly technical. People know what I meant. But I edited it for your liking. Are you HAPPY

Also I changed the terms used (kept 2 of them), because Zac gives crappy advice. I assumed this was okay since I sincerely doubt anyone has started yet. Jeff's entry doesn't count. Towards anything. Ever. In the whole world.

Also, I should note that all the terms have to be physically included in the story. IE, saying "like a walrus" as a simile wouldn't cut it.

I physically included all the words in my song. Damn my alternative media.

I'm tempted to write something for this. Possibly in blood. It's been a while since I wrote anything in blood.

Sounds interesting.

Some odd force of the cosmos nearly compelled me to fill this post with words beginning with the letter G, but I fought back against this malicious entity and triumphed.
In victory I say:

Glory to Good Gnomes and Guises of Glib Generalities!
