Very harsh words but very true. It's just not smart to even try smoking either tobacco or marijuana. Sure there are a few people who've tried it once or twice and that was it but more often than not, you'll get hooked almost instantly and once you're hooked you're not getting off easily. My maternal Grandparents both smoked when they were younger. It wasn't viewed as such a health risk back then. Then a close friend of my Grandfather died of lung cancer and after his funeral, he put the pack of cigarettes away and never touched them again. My Grandmother followed suit not long after. The best way to avoid getting hooked on cigarettes is just not to start. Well this is pulling away from the main topic a lot. I will add that I've learned that as of yet, no illegal drugs seemed to have been involved with Heath Ledgers death. Really want know for sure till the toxicology report. Not that you had anything worth salvaging if you're using either one in the first place.

My mom, who has done marijuana maybe once every few years, does not believe it to be neurologically addictive -- merely habitual in many cases. So why do I find so much online about marijuana addiction? Apparently, it's just not as strongly addictive as most non-medicinal drugs.
There's also the factor of individual susceptibility. A college friend of mine says he's tried just about every drug, and in all but two cases, he felt he could take or leave the experience. He is now a functioning alcoholic with some longing for... I forget what the other drug is, but I hadn't heard of it before. Sounds similar to ecstasy.

Actually, marijuana isn't as damaging to your lungs as tobacco, but it does make a mess of your higher brain functions.
EDIT: Not that you had anything worth salvaging if you're using either one in the first place.
So says the person with no experience in the matter.
Round the hangin tree
Swayin in the breeze
In the summer sun
As we two are one
Swayin

As we two are one

Are you really insinuating that anybody who smokes pot or even cigarettes is simply a waste of life? If so, you just seriously dissed a lot of people who post here. Do NOT make such sweeping, harsh generalizations. There is no need for them and it just makes you seem like a jerk.Actually, marijuana isn't as damaging to your lungs as tobacco, but it does make a mess of your higher brain functions.

Who sleeps shall awake, greeting the shadows from the sun
Who sleeps shall awake, looking through the window of our lives
Waiting for the moment to arrive...
Show us the silence in the rise,
So that we may someday understand...

You say that as if I care about the opinion of someone dumb enough to deliberately run toxic chemicals through their body on a daily basis. Are you really insinuating that anybody who smokes pot or even cigarettes is simply a waste of life? I might join ya in that yelling match.I'd rather yell at you for indulging yourself in figurative language.
Interesting point. After all vaccines are just the dead or attenuated form of a virus that could be toxic to ya in a sense. Also if you consider the mercury-based preservative used in em. Surprised they haven't started coming up with an alternative to that.Ever get a vaccine?

...dammit. Cigarettes are addictive on a whole other level. Just TALKING about them makes me want to smoke. BRB.Yell at me for throwing my life away by calling the devil-weed nicotine a flower of the common man, for strangling myself in the Cult of Beautiful pain and dancing with the seven shades of mysterious, gorgeous pollution.

Again, I think it varies by individual.I quit smoking. It was easy. I don't know what the big fuss about cigarettes being addictive is - I decided that I wasn't enjoying them anymore and haven't smoked since.
