Systematic Colour Abuse - Wuxia
Moderator:Æron
Just for the record... I don't make "art"; I "systematically abuse colour". The word "art" feels dirty to me...
That aside though...
I figure I might as well just throw forward something I just made on a whim:

BE WARNED: THE IMAGE IS 1240 x 1024 IN SIZE!
I think that'll be the last time I bother doing one of these with a background. For some reason I just seem to have a major issue with backgrounds and can never quite make them look right, let alone with my low-colour style abuses.
Yes... in case you're wondering, the "gif effect" on the background is no mistake. I saved this as a Gif file because I do most of my SCA in low-colour. It just didn't translate for the mist all that well.
And thankfully I still have the PSP file I used to make it whence I can extract the protagonist without the background sans further effort.... if so desired...
Did I mention I like Kung Fu films?
[ Note: I'm not doing this for criticism; I like the way I abuse my colour. I'm not doing it for praise either, as that generally sickens me to the core with its insincerity. I'm just posting it in case anyone wants to glance at it, quirk an eyebrow, nod and move on. ]

You can't seriously expect me to do just that for something so cool looking.I'm just posting it in case anyone wants to glance at it, quirk an eyebrow, nod and move on.

Looks awesome. I like pictures that have no black outline and this one in particular looks pretty cool.

ANYWHERE.
My deviantart... though it does suck.
My FA... nothing's on it right now, so there's no point to click it.

Awesome stuff.
Pics plz.I thought that forefinger looked awkward until I tried it myself and saw it's possible. Still looks awkward though.

I tend to avoid the black outlines by doing all my SCA in a very particular manner:Looks awesome. I like pictures that have no black outline and this one in particular looks pretty cool.
I use a point-to-point area select tool to make a rough shape... block-fill it... carve off the corners... then subdivide it over and over again, block-filling each part separately.
There isn't a single part of the image that was "hand-drawn" persay. It was all done with the select tool, fill tool and colour-replace tool... and a few modifying filters here and there (such as the distortion mapping of the texture for the sleeves).
^_^
Strangely enough, any time I try to portray someone in a particular pose, it is mandatory that I can assume the posture myself.I thought that forefinger looked awkward until I tried it myself and saw it's possible. Still looks awkward though.
Of course given that I'm double-jointed throughout my entire body, that is rarely a problem. It does however bring me to assume some positions sometimes that would be uncomfortable to other people... but I honestly have no way of telling.
[ That and perspective is subtley implied

On the whole though, I wasn't expecting to get a positive response for this... *shrugs*

Looks good! I think the pose is done quite well. Though I do have to agree that the hand looks a bit awkward.

You'd think I write the little sayings that go inside fortune cookies for a living. That would be incorrect. Most of the ones I write end up inside dog biscuits. If one expects anything, one sets oneself up to be surprised.
A lot of work went into that "non-art." As much as any quality hand drawn work, I'm fairly certain.
I, too, think the concept of art has been mutilated and misrepresented to the point of not being what it originally was. Also on my list are Political Correctness and lawsuits.
For example (and this is one that really irks me): A man was riding a bicycle at night without any lights to see by. He runs into the side of a truck (like a pickup). Guess who he sues (and actually wins)?
The bicycle manufacturer.
Now bicycle manufacturers put what would seem to be a redundant label on their product: "WARNING! Reflectors do not provide sufficient light for riding at night."
If you happen to see what seems like a stupid or common sense type warning, it's because the one who wrote it probably just doesn't want to be sued for something equally ridiculous.
My favorite warnings were on the side of a fountain beverage cup: "Warning: contents may be cold." Also, "Warning: contents may be wet."
Now let's see how fast this thread veers off topic...
