Oh, while it's on my mind, I'm actually heading to the main building for my local paper today to at the very least set up an appointment about getting O&M printed. Here's hoping i make it during business hours!
*flies of to deliver some important papers, then dash off to the car, then drive quickly into the city during psuedo rush-hour.*

Alright, here is the scoop!

As it turns out... i was mistaken, it WASN'T psuedo rush-hour, since it was such a nice day out, everyone left work early! I was in the thick of it! however, despite that, I managed to get to their office on time.

When I got there, I was immediatly helped by a security officer. Actually, despite how that sounds, it wasn't a negative thing. He seemed to be doing some secritarial work for some reason. In any case, from the sounds of it, they are more than willing to listen... I just happened to go there on a day or a rather large meeting. However, I was advised to contact them on monday, shortly after 10:00 (which will have to be 11:00, as thats when I get out of class.) to set up an appointment.

I want to be prepared. If she sais to come right in(in that very unlikely event), i want to have a power point presentation prepared. Here is what I could use some help with for any one willing... graphics, depicting the best of O&M. Obviously, I'd use the graphics on simpsons main page (with his permission, seeing about that throught he support e-mail) to introduce the characters, and then show the positive things, as well as examples of the best of O&M, both from long story arcs, to the one shots that are just there.

I want this to be as... i'll use the word multidimensional, as possible, and if only I put it together, then the newspaper is only getting what I like about the comic, and not people in general.

Suggestions for sub-topics? anyone have powerpoint XP and willing to help look ovre things? Which examples should be added and printed off for a backup plan? i have some of my own ideas, but again, they are only mine (and it will not include the one that got me hooked to O&M, Attention Deficit Disorder, i think that one is to specifically targeted for a convincing case.) The strip that appeared yesterday is a good one shot and story arc example, which will serve as a double whammy. Sorry about posting 3 times ina row, but it's been a while for this thread, and now things are moving. Lets hope this goes through, if it does, it's one foot in the door!

*edit* Oh, so it asn't a tripple post, norse snuck in there! The paper is the Frederick News Post. The Washington Post may be a good second, but the Frederick News Post is within a short driving distance of me, hence how i got there before closing hours of business.

I was going to say that getting an apointment at the Washington Post is a long shot ESPECIALY if you decide to drive into town at 4:00 PM on a Friday, both because fo Rush hour (people usualy get of work early on Fridays) adn because you wouldn't be likly to get an apointment at the Washington Post jsut by showing up. I think the Frederik paper is a good start.

I have Power Point XP but have 1) never used it and 2) don't knwo how much help I would be. The lack of help is a combination fo the fact I'm not the one making the presentation and the fact that I can't help you in person. I am willing to do what I can though.

I think the re-runs woudl be your best bet because those are what DCS decided to show when he decided to show re-runs. That is most likly what would be the best acording to him. Other then that any strip can be my favorite if it hits me the right way at the right time. I especialy like mine. but that's just a personal favorite.

Don't wory about the three posts in a row. I'm sure no one woudl mine especaly since they actuly convayed usefull information un-like most of the posts here which is just conversation. Good work and good luck.

Wow, awesome.

That would totally kick tail if that paper ran O&M. Good luck with the meeting, FoxChild. We're all hoping for the best.

As for strips to use, I'm with norsenerd: look to the reruns. Maybe the storyline that just finished would work too.

I can't help with the PowerPoint, I've never used it. Sorry.

oh, I know power point, quite well in fact... i just never assume my work to be neccisarily good, so I like to have it looked over. I may have missed something vital, or done something that may not be a good idea. In any case, time to find some graphics!

I'll try to get O&M into a Dublin newpaper!

Of course, easier said than done.

It's hard to get O&M in newspapers because it's
1) Bigger than the normal size.
2) Black and white so it won't get into kids comic sections easily.
3) Based on kids so it won't get into normal comic sections easily.
4) Newspapers probably don't take comic orders.
5) Ozy's grandmother makes them do lame comics anyways.

But it's hardly a reason not to try.

5 points to BSP for that fifth one.

BSP, to counter....

1) size can be reduced.
2) weekday comics in almost all american newspapers are in B&W
3) neither Pogo, nor C&H were "normal" kids, + garfield isn't a kid at all,
4) they've said they are willing to listen
5) i think ozy's grandmother would make an acception in this instance !
