I think the people whose relatives or friends died there might disagree. In fact, pretty much anyone with a heart would. Unless you're a terrorist, I suggest you try to understand that people died and saying,"I NOT CARE LULZ," isn't cool. It's stupid.

Oh, and if an attack withing your country's borders isn't enough to declare war, then absolutely nothing is. Wars start over much less than 2,974 dead.

The thing is, though, that a lot of people don't care about 9/11. Hell, a lot of Americans don't care, and Chris lives in the Philippines (I think). They will say they do when asked, though, since they wouldn't want to seem like an asshole. But, yeah, it is quite a bit on the tasteless side saying you "don't give a pants about" 9/11 in a topic commemorating it, but it's honest anyway.

It's pretty hard to declare "war" in the traditional sense on an enemy that has no fixed adress.

The intent was the same, no matter the outcome. If you want to condemn the US for terrorist actions in wartime, mind that we're not nearly the only ones to commit them.

It's the outcome that makes it matter. The Japanese attack had nowhere near the impact the American one did. The intent was the same obviously but the vast differences in what actually happened make it a moot point.

There's no escaping the fact that the cultural landscape has changed in more than one nation. That there has been a greater demand for security. That we've been divided over what to do about terrorism. That the relations between the U.S. and most other countries have soured.

My attitudes and definitions of terrorists remained unchanged. My general opinion about American governments are unchanged. I didn't attempt to put extra security measures around my neighbourhood. I didn't start being paranoid about terrorists and people wearing stereotypical Arabian clothes (I'm far more paranoid about being in a traffic accident everytime I go outside). And I didn't condone giving up essential liberty for temporary security.

Edit - In 20 or 30 years time there'll probably a comedy series where jokes are made about this, just like World War 2.

Also, I'd like to point out that the Japanese attacked a military target, the US a-bombs and the firebombing of Tokyo were aimed specifically at the civilian population.

And like Loeln says, the one time the Japanese tried that they failed miserably.
