Jon Stewart: Oscars Host 2008

Postby Llewthepoet » Wed Sep 12, 2007 10:57 pm

You know they are just paving the way for Stephen Colbert to host in 2008. I called it.

In your face, celebrities! 8) Prepare to get burned!
(It least it's not Sarah Silverman.)

What are your thoughts?

I honestly don't think I could care less. Lest dig up some old dead celebrity for the next one.

Again?
Who sleeps shall awake, greeting the shadows from the sun
Who sleeps shall awake, looking through the window of our lives
Waiting for the moment to arrive...
Show us the silence in the rise,
So that we may someday understand...

Again?
That's what I was thinking. But they've done that before... I think Billy Crystal hosted several Academy Awards ceremonies.

The Oscars suck anyways, it's like watching someone else's graduation ceremony.

You know I just realised I haven't seen any movie (in cinemas or television) since Pan's Labyrinth (which was great) was released. The Oscars, or any movie award ceremony, have never interested me.

I usually watch for some reason. The only Oscar ceremony since 1995 that I didn't see even part of was 2004. That was an accident, but it sounds like I didn't miss much anyway. Crystal, in my experience, offers fairly good opening sequences and not much else. Same with Whoopi.

Steve Martin is my personal favorite host so far. He doesn't run out of steam. Chris Rock in 2005 and Jon Stewart in 2006 weren't bad, but neither were they in their element IMO. (I must say, the selection of those two guys followed by Ellen DeGeneres must indicate a rather liberal atmosphere at the Academy.)

The first broadcast of the Oscars was, I believe, less than 20 minutes long.

My boss has a huge Oscar party every year. I always go. It's tons of fun, lots of snacks and beer (she's a Corona drinker). She has a $10 pool where you can predict the winners of the major categories... first place gets half the pool, last place gets a ridiculously humorous booby prize based on a movie from that year. The first time I went, I came in last place and won a King Kong mask and handcuffs.

Sounds like fun, Doc.

One year, the Oscars ended 20 minutes earlier than scheduled. They had to reach for filler until the network took pity on them and cued the ads. Hard to imagine that happening ever again.
