Is it wrong that I have no idea who Walt Kelly is and never heard of Pogo?

No; I haven't either.

I don't know much about Pogo or Walt Kelley either; I just knew that he died some time ago.
Who sleeps shall awake, greeting the shadows from the sun
Who sleeps shall awake, looking through the window of our lives
Waiting for the moment to arrive...
Show us the silence in the rise,
So that we may someday understand...

I had an idea once that Pogo should make another go at being resurrected
They tried it in the 80's, it didn't catch on. I can't understand why, what with the syndicated comics market being full of succesful political comics that parody and satire with unrelenting pithy comments and acidic jibes.

It sort of pains me that some people don't even know of Walt Kelly or Pogo here. Rooster, I think you'd like it if you gave it a chance.

"Pogo" was one of the strips that expanded my idea of what comic strips could be like. It was an enormous influence on me. (Arguably Timulty resembles one of the characters so closely as to flirt with plagiarism.)

In my teenage years, there were two cartoons I copied and studied with the devotion of a monk copying the Bible in longhand: The Simpsons, and Pogo. I used to cover every spare inch of my classroom notes with Groening and Kelly's characters.

What I'm saying is, don't sit around here announcing your ignorance of one of the greatest comic strips in the history of the medium. Shut up and go read some. You could just do what I did when I was 13 and visit your local library.

High skill, right there.

This is the level of illustration and writing the cartooning world needs these days. Not too dissimilar from some of the newer Opus comics, actually.

Walt Kelly is probably the best comic making person since comics were invented.

I know very little about Walt Kelly (if anything)...

I've read POGO comics before (my mom owns a book) and I really didn't enjoy myself...

Regretfully, my current geographic location means that most likely I won't be able to find any of the books someplace accessible. Unless one of my friends happens to be a Pogo fan, but I'm pretty sure that's not the case.

I don't suppose there's a copy of the comics somewhere on the internet?

I tried to post this comment on Friday, but I had Net problems:

DCS, I almost fell off my perch when I saw this strip. Before checking the signature, I thought, "Who could be filling Kelly's shoes so well?" I get the impression you needed all those genuine guest strips to allow you time to make the fake one. Truly, this is the most you've impressed me in years.

If only Pogo collections were easier to obtain.

Fantagraphics, it seems, is going to start reprinting them in October. Not the original books, but a new series.

Also, wow, Walt's daughter was a GOH at Anthrocon? Holy cow, if I thought I hated myself for not going when I found out Rob Paulsen had been there...
