First Words

What were your first word(s). Mine has a story but yours need not have one.
My first word was:
HOT
This is how my parents (father) taught me: I was sitting at the table in the morning after my father made coffee. He let the coffee pot cool down to a point that wouldn't hurt me and repeated the word "hot" while brining the coffee pot closer. I reached out for it and retracted when I toughed it and said "hot." To this day when I feel pain I will sometimes say the word "hot" instead of "ow."

I can't recall, however, the first "word" I used was "Yakum". Though not a real word, it was the first term I used to refer to something, namely my dog Dakota.
Apparently I didn't talk much for quite a while. My parents actually thought I was deaf for a while, since I wasn't talking when other people's kids were babbling up a storm. Then one day I just started talking, in full sentences and everything. My parents' say it seemed like I was just saving everything up until I could speak properly.

My first words were "Daddy; Bath now, please."
Do you have an ASD? Just curious because 'delayed speech' and 'when starting talking, talking in complete sentences' are both not uncommon ways that ASDs can effect people at a young age.I can't recall, however, the first "word" I used was "Yakum". I don't remember what my first word was. But that story about not talking much sounded a lot like my own. Rumor has it I could read before I could talk.My first words were "Daddy; Bath now, please."

But, unfortunately, it turned out I did have an ASD, Asperger's syndrome, to be specific. But while it's made my life more of a struggle than it otherwise would be, I managed to overcome it and I'm now a college graduate.
As with other people here, it did take me a while until I was talking. The lesson above aside. And as with at-least one other person here I have been diagnosed with an ASD: Pervasive Developmental Disorder. There is some disagreement amongst medical professionals about weather I have PDD or some other developmental disorder.I don't remember what my first word was. I think that the first word I wrote was "Oslo" (as in Norway), which I spelled out on the floor with wall tiles that my dad was putting up.
The first word my brother wrote was "Hershey's", complete with apostrophe, which he copied off a billboard.
The first word my first niece said was "Heyyyy you!!" when she called out to me as I was walking by.
