Funny thing is, this is pretty much only the second game of this type. All other "army games" are pretty much shoot-em-ups...

Negative. The other one is "Operation Flashpoint" when I said "of that type" I meant massive-scale, tactical... stuff... America's Army is NOT massive-scale. Operation Flashpoint (or just OFP) and Armed Assault (or ArmA) are the only massive-scale combat simulations I can think of that are not MMO'sThe other one is America's Army, yes?
