Okay, apparently Volkswagen just decided to name two versions of the Golf the "Rabbit" (the first and present versions) in North America. Same car (basically), different name.
I wish they'd just stick with the Rabbit name. I like it a lot better.
You are correct. The first (Mark 1) and newest (Mark 5) Golfs are called Rabbit in North America. Lots of cars have different names in different countries. For example the Audi 80 was called the Audi Fox in North America, the VW Voyage and Parati in Brazil where the VW Fox in North America and VW Jettas where called Vento and Bora at one point in Europe. I don't know why car companies do that, it makes everything complicated.
