A little help with PC drawing tablets if you please

Postby Tum0spoo » Fri Nov 24, 2006 4:06 am

I'm looking into wether or not I should get a drawing tablet. I don't know anything about them, or if it's worthwile for an occasional artist like me. Info I'd like: 1.basic cost 2.good brands 3.best place to buy 4. worth the money?

Thanks for any info.

Wacom tablets are the best, but if you can't afford one, I got a Trust one for £40 last year. A5 size.

I got a cheap little wacom a while ago. I don't even use it much, since I don't draw art, but when I do use it it's useful.

I've got one of those. Very, very nice. No lag, and it doesn't suck the batteries much at all.

If you can't afford to shell out the cash for a Wacom, like I wasn't able to, I would suggest a good alternative is an Aiptek Hyperpen 12000u. I'm pleased with it, especially for the fairly inexpensive 90-100 buck price for its size (12 in by 9 in)

I don't like the mentality that "If it isn't wacom, it sucks." There ARE non-wacom brand art tablets that are just fine, and the price tag of many wacoms is just...brugh.

The only real problems I have are batteries last maybe 3 weeks if I don't remove them after using them. But I have rechargeables anyways.

EDIT: Oh, other problem, is the top shortcut buttons aren't very customizable, but I hardly use them so its no problem.

Why are you getting tablets that use batteries?

Because Wacom has a patent on battery-free tablets?

I don't get tablets. I tried using one once and FAILED miserably. Think I'll just stick to pencils, pens, and paper.

But then again, if they're this cheap I might blag one just to say I own one ;

Well, apparently my dad got this one half-off. Plus, it's one triple-A a month, if I use it a lot. Not such a big deal, really. No lag, light, and very quick to learn. Love it!

It's a single triple-a battery used for the pen. Not that much really, and I figured out part of the problem is if the pen tip is point down on something, it works on the battery. Had my latest battery charge in the pen over a month now on its side.

To me, spending thrice as much just to save a battery isn't that interesting to me. I'll get a Wacom some day, just not now =)
