They have many uses. My grandma has an occasional table to cover up occasional coffee stains.

Placing things on the occasional table is probably a bad idea.

I reckon, should you be standing where the occasional table is set to appear, you would survive, but be embedded in the table until is disappears again. May defy certain laws of physics, but so does this particular table.

Not at all. In reality the table exists in a single dimension. However, this dimension in which the table resides lies perpendicular to many of the other dimensions (of which there are at least 10).
All matter in the universe, and therefore in other dimensions of the universe, vibrates with a resonant frequency. When the frequency of the table catches up to the frequencies in this dimension the table becomes a tangible object for a brief time. After said time the table's matter continues in it's slightly faster resonant frequency and therefore leaves this dimension only to appear once again in one of the other ten dimensions.

It should be noted that the "Occasional Dimension" (as some call it) is a circular dimension.

It has been theorized that if the barrier to this perpendicular dimension could be understood then travel to and from other dimensions would be a reality. However, since only natural 'holes' in the barrier exist, it is generally difficult to observe the actual barrier.
