Figure this is a good place to put this.

I can pirate whatever I want, but I'm looking for hidden gems of internet musics - remixes, indie stuff, samples, whatever. Free stuff unlikely to be on the p2p's because it isn't well known enough, but still rocks.

Anyway. I've found the below so far to be pretty awesome. Broad range of stuff down there, all high quality stuff, all free.

http://www.simpsonmusic.org/ -- Indie rock with soul. Made by the creator of Ozy and Millie - you go listen now. And buy the CD!

http://www.machinaesupremacy.com/webography.html -- English rock/MEHTUL with videogame music influences. Pretty unique sounds to a lot of their stuff.

http://q-unit.net/ -- Bastard lovechild of Queen and 50 Cent. Had to be heard to be believed.

http://www.metroidmetal.com/ -- Metroid MEHTUL. Need I say more? I will. Listen plz.

http://zoomzip.kil.la/skeetspirit/ -- Crunked up Radiohead. Yarly. Hotness.

http://www.eigenhat.com/marathon -- Old game I still play, tunes skillfully and subtly remixed.

http://www.symphonyx.com/audio.html -- MEHTUL Ballad stuffs? Not sure what to call it. Good tunes, nice art.

http://www.bannedmusic.org/ -- Mostly Jay-Z remixes, born in controversy, but ending up legal. Really quite good, especially the Jay-Z x Metallica version.

Spray sez:

http://www.powergoat.com/ -- goat's MEHTUL remixes, mostly Castlevania but there are a few other game remixes and some original works. I strongly recommend the Rush'n Attack remix!

http://virt.vgmix.com/ -- virt, of VGMix fame. More game remixes, mostly MEHTUL, which tend to be long. There are also some original works here.

http://www.vertexguy.com/ -- Vertexguy also has a lot of game themes, many of them are original compositions. A lot of his work can be found on YouTube, as well.

http://www.minibosses.com/ -- The Minibosses! Not a lot of their songs or videos are available for download on their site, but they do allow them to be distributed via p2p and such.

http://www.neskimos.com/ -- Not quite as famous as the Minibosses, the Neskimos also perform MEHTUL remixes of old video game themes. I like their rendition of the Bionic Commando soundtrack.

The MAZZTer sez links to massive videogame music remix databases:

Thousands of pieces of music. Who said songs have to be mp3s? MODs have some of the best music and hardly anyone seems to know of them. Anyone with musical talent can make one too if they're willing to learn.

Jonathan Coulton is an excellent musician who is currently engaged in his Song a Week project. He asks for donations, but the songs are free and legal. He also has a podcast.

Drew Blackard offers some of his excellent acoustic songs for free.

Ethan Joy (aka E-dog) offers his songs for free.

http://www.sundaysaway.com/

Sundays Away are doing a similar thing to Jonathan Coulton - a free piece of music every week. Worth a listen, and they have a podcast.

Finnish http://www.mikseri.net has got lot of free music. If your viking is bad, try here ^^: http://www.mikseri.net/music/search.php

I'm hoping you guys, what with your years of combined internet wisdom, will be able to help me put together a kickass resource of internet musics. Hell, come to think of it, the board needs an official playlist of some sort. Might as well make it from free.

So, what am I missing?

I don't know the legalities of remixes and whatnot, but if those sites can be used for pirating then they're not allowed. I thought I saw a pretty big red flag with "free music" so I decided to warn you =P

DCS should've ended the comic a year or two ago.

Hmm, you're right, I'll clarify that. Music *must be* legal, eg released by the band or person themselves.

I was going to say the alpha conspiracy. Necros FM's earlier work is even more the awesome.

Search for "Point of Departure" by Necros FM, It's one song I can always listen to over and over no matter what mood I'm in. Anything else by him is awesome too

Other places to try for free legal music are SoundClick and GarageBand.

Also, does anyone have links to free (legal) German music? I love the German language :)

DCS's music site is already linked in the front page anyway, so I guess it's forgivable.

How could I forget DCS? Makes up quite a large chunk of my music collection, actually :)
