First off, yes, these are Midis, and yes, I know midis are not the best. But they were the best I had to work with.

But OK!

Some of you have heard these, others haven't, I decided to come out and post them publically now. There's four in all, part of a five part "suite" (I'm still working on the 5th), and I wanted to have more feedback/constructive criticism on these.

Yaaay, links!

Rungus Rumble: My first midi. It's sort of electronica-ish. At this point in songmaking, it was more experimentation with the new program than anything. Also, it was an attempt to make music sounded that like that of an online RPG called Castle Infinity (which, by the way, I succeeded at :D). Overall, this is my least favorite of my four, but don't get me wrong, I still think it's good.

Eclipse: My second. Title, honestly, based off the type of gum Simon was chewing at the time I was talking to him. I was a little more familiar with the program at this point, and was able to expand my musicality. This song has a lot of swift style changes (at times, too swift), but ends on a note that is similar to its beginning. Nice little outro. This is probably my 2nd favorite.

Barren Lands: My third. There was a little experimentation with sound effects on this one; whether I went overboard on them or not, I'm not sure. This song is a lot calmer than the last two, but probably the most dramatic of the trio. At the time of composing this number, I was feeling really sad, almost depressed, about my favorite hangout place, Astroworld, closing for good. I think the gloominess of that period is reflected in the song.

The Cloudslayer Masquerade: My fourth. By far, the most dramatic of the four. I've heard this song being described (by people who are not me) as being "Dungeons and Dragons-esque", and "pure black MEHTUL, without guitars". I'm not sure about the latter, but it does contain influences from other bands I listen to (namely Nightwish, Blind Guardian and Iron Maiden). It's the furthest cry from my first, Rungus Rumble, and sometimes it seems to be a bit over-arranged, but it's my personal favorite.

As I've said, there's a fifth in the works, but I'm having a little trouble with mixing right now, so it might be a while.

Please, if you have the time, take a listen at these and tell me what you think. Constructive criticism is welcome.

I've been told these links don't work! Sorry about that. I guess you can copy/paste it into a new tab/browser.

The Cloudslayer Masquerade
"Dungeons and Dragons-esque"
Yes, it does seem to be that way. I can see myself playing D&D to something like this possibly.

heh I knew this was your thread even before reading the starter. I'll listen to these when my dad isn't asleep, but they must be good to be arch-worthy...right? :)

I like them! The Cloudslayer Masquerade is my favourite as well. For some reason, the opening of Eclipse sound familiar to me, I can't say why.

What program do you use to create your MIDIs?

OK. pants it. I lied. It's drum and bass. What you gonna do?

I've taken a few of these apart to look at the MIDI pattern. I don't know if it's my MIDI sequence player thingie, but looking at it gives you a whole lot more respect; just listening to them doesn't do it justice. I mean, at one point in Cloudslayer Masquerade there's something like 20-25 different instruments (granted mostly percussion, but still =o) playing at once, and the opening of Eclipse loses something (unless you can hear each track perfectly by itself) because, to be honest, I love the dramatic echoes part as a solo, but that's just me.

Thanks! Actually, the introduction of Eclipse was sort of based off of the introduction to Nightwish's The Kinslayer. Perhaps you know the song?

Also, I used Anvil Studio to create these, which is available for free at their website (anvilstudio.com).

Tai: Heh, that 20-25 instrument part you mentions is probably the part that's over-arranged. But thankz for the praize!

Kind of a loose guess but where you using Music Sculptor?

Rungus Rumble:
This is like a mix of horror, MEHTUL, medieval and some VG kinda music, but all in mild amounts.

Eclipse:
Holy shit what did you do to the reverse cymbal (0:27)!? Pitch shift? Geez, I've never heard anything that special effect-y in a MIDI before... Congrats.
The melody that comes next has got some nice rythmn in it, the guitars are by far my fav part of the song. Piano rocks as well, I love how you faded everything out and left the piano playing by itself. I love pianos.

Barren Lands:
I like this one the most, beautifully dramatic, aside from the cheesy sound effect intro, but I'm sure that's due to MIDI instrument limitations. Eee, fadout all but the piano again! And I rekkon it's really cool how you ended it similar to the start with the shakuhachi and seashor-AUGH DRAMATIC MINOR NOTE ENDING!! *Falls over.*

The CloudSlayer Masquerade:
Eyy, nice start with those strings quickly going up and down like a sudden fast wind or something. Reminds me of some of the music from Kings Quest VII The Princless Bride.
I love the Scottish or Irish or whatever culture melody that fiddle is playing along with the big hits. Heh, and the percussion hitting all those notes at once, it's as if you've gone, "Hey, I need a big instrumental bang here.. uhh you, percussion, play all the notes from here up to here, kay?"
"Sure thing darl."
"I told you not to shpeak! *Slap!* Now play them beats!"
"Beat beat beat beat..."
Great work on those toms as well, I don't think I've heard anything that impressive on toms, let alone the fact that this is MIDI. I gotta show this to a drummer friend of mine, see if he can play it.

Friggen nice work there.
What is this 5 part suite gonna be called?

What is this 5 part suite gonna be called?
The Phoenix (it's meaning a reference to Fahrenheit 451).

And the uber dramatic note thingy at the end of Barren Lands was mainly put in so it would "flow" into Cloudslayer.

Again, thanks for the feedback!

Turned on my computer and the first thing I wanted to do was listen to III and IV again. I so want to hear this done with real instruments, at least the piano...
