Avatar form anyone?

[Snip, non-fugly one below]

It was a bit harder to size down than I'd hoped for, since the optimizations done on the GIF made earlier frames "leak" through somewhat when I first resized it, so I had to remove them (I don't have a tool for optimizing animated GIFs).

It has to be something on my comp. The avatar form stands still, and every program I open the gif in shows it as having only one frame. I shall have to look into this...

Lots of editors can't handle animated GIFs and discard all but the first frame. GIMP is what I used, since it can handle them.

I don't know why images wouldn't be animating for you, other than I know that pressing ESC after I page has loaded in some browsers will stop GIF animations.

[Edit: Maybe a router or firewall setting turns any animated GIFs you download into static ones, to decrease file size.]

Perhaps it's a setting in your videocard. How old is it? If it's out of date, that could be the reason. I had an old videocard on my last computer and it wouldn't play multiple frame images.

It appears at least Mozilla browsers use DirectDraw, which would allow for hardware accelleration...

But if your video card doesn't support animations it would have to be at least 5-10 years old...

It's highly unlikely.

It is possible with third-party tools to disable DirectDraw hardware accelleration to test this, however. If you REALLY want to.
