Ozy and Millie was his first comic, so of course he would model his anthro-self after that world

That's rather closed minded. Just because there are people who partake of the sexual role-play of anthropomorfic caracatures, dosn't mean it's the "dark side" of a fan base.

I'm not sure of the exact wording, but Grissom on CSI said something like this:
The only unusual sex is the lack of it.
