Today in marching band practice, I saw one of the people I like the least in my school go up to one of my friends, and do this thing he calls "gleaning." I don't know if that's an actual word, but he basicaly spit in his face, and my friend did nothing. If he had spit in my face, I'm afraid I would have to at least get one good punch to the face, I don't care if he's about 50 lbs heavier then me, you can't do much with a broken nose. I admire my friend's self control, and when I told my dad about it he told me about the "To Kill a Mockingbird" scene where the layer is also gets spit on the face. My friend isn't afraid to stand up to himself, either. Hell, he's taller than him, the other guy is just an overconfident asshole. If someone were to spit in my face do you think I should take it and walk away, or seek retribution? I hear it hurts bad if you punch the upper lip really hard because of some nerves located right there or something like that.... Anyway, opinions? Be honest please. Also, he's the person who calls things he dosn't like/understand queer. He's said that about 100 times this year already.

Dude, it's not a choice between some form of violence and doing "nothing." You can tell an authority about it. Maybe the guy's parents.
Failing that, you could try blackmail. Say, there's a technique Ozy never tried....

Regardless of what happens, I believe it would be best to restrain yourself. Talk to the band director afterward, get him kicked out of band, whatever. But punching people like that doesn't make them change, it only makes them mad at you. There are other, better ways of getting back at someone without resorting to violence.

I know hurting him wouldn't make him change, but I'm thinking it would encourage him from trying anything. Also, a important point I left out, I might not be strong enough and he may get back up and bad stuff would ensue, or I may actually break his nose and get sued or something like that.Regardless of what happens, I believe it would be best to restrain yourself. Apparently a lot of you think I shouldn't hurt him. I'll keep that in mind if he ever tries anything.
Think about it this way:
If someone spit in your face, it would take an enormous amount of guts to not retaliate, more so than it would take to flatten his face. Think about it. Is it easier to fight back or to stand your ground and take it? By not attacking him, you are proving yourself braver than he is. When he picks on people who are smaller/not as "equipped" as he is, he is being a coward.Remember that.
(that said, you need to take this with a grain of salt. If he starts attacking you/threatening your life, you have every reason in the world to defend yourself. If it's not life threatining, though, don't retaliate. It'll give him a feeling of power and make things much worse.)
Another note: You and this student are basically equals in the school community ladder/chain. You need to go to someone who has authority/power to adaquately deal with the situation at hand. If that fails, go to your dad, and ask him to go with you to talk to the dude's dad. In summary, in this case it is best not to take matters into your own hands. As satisfying as it may seem in the beginning, it will only open up a world of trouble.
And that's me two cents.

Astro> gforce's smiles can cure cancer in kittensgforce422 is awesome because:
-He made the absolute nicest comments about me in the other topic. I didn't respond to them yet, because I suck, but they are greatly appreciated! =D
-I would say he would also be a good runner up as one of the nicest people alive.
-He joined the IRC sometimes. But not enough, I say! Chat moar =D
-He is evidently only 18 year old but he could easily pass for 25. =D
-He is a drummer like *I* am and this in itself is cool.

However, by doing nothing to prevent future attacks, you're effectivly condoning and aiding his behavior.By not attacking him, you are proving yourself braver than he is.
Escalate this. Go to the teacher, if he does nothing, go to the principal, if he does nothing, call the police and report witnessing an assualt, give them the name of the person who did the spitting.

But yeah, Vince, Mr B's advice is good.

What you SHOULD do is give him a big kiss if he does that. On the mouth. He'll be so scarred he'll never do it again.
Who sleeps shall awake, greeting the shadows from the sun
Who sleeps shall awake, looking through the window of our lives
Waiting for the moment to arrive...
Show us the silence in the rise,
So that we may someday understand...

Then there's the obvious: Spit right back. Just do what he does.
Hm, that's another way to swap spit, but... ew.What you SHOULD do is give him a big kiss if he does that. On the mouth.
