Banned from Acidchat? [resolved]

Postby datherman » Wed Oct 31, 2007 10:42 pm

Yeah, so I found out today that by connecting to AcidChat without actually joining a channel for an extended period of time (as Trillian automatically does upon bootup), I have been banned from AcidChat and am autokilled upon attempting to reconnect. I've removed it from Trillian's list of "automatically connect upon bootup" protocols, but is there any way to get me unbanned? Do the ops in #definecynical even have the power to do that?

Moreover, is it a permaban or just a temporary one? The autokick doesn't really tell me anything concerning if/when I'll be allowed back.
*** -spicylemons.acidchat.net- *** You are banned from Acidchat (Temporary idle (not in any channel) AKILL.)

*** Error: Closing Link: DanTheMan[hostmask] (User has been banned from Acidchat (Temporary idle (not in any channel) AKILL.))
I can't exactly sign onto IRC to message an op about it, so I hope this can be allowed in this forum.

Jent is an irCOP so he might be able to help but it looks like your being killed because your not joining a channel on connecting, try setting trillian to join #definecynical as a default channel?

It seems that it was only a temp ban, as I'm now able to get back on. I've added "/join #definecynical" to the list of actions Trillian executes upon connecting to random.acidchat.net, so hopefully this won't happen in the future.

Issue resolved.

I hope you learned your lesson, whatever it was >:@
Who sleeps shall awake, greeting the shadows from the sun
Who sleeps shall awake, looking through the window of our lives
Waiting for the moment to arrive...
Show us the silence in the rise,
So that we may someday understand...

Indeed, O&M would be proud: there's a lesson to be learned somewhere, though it has no relevance whatsoever to the issue at hand. In this case, it's probably something about the irony in wearing waterproof pants in the Sahara.

The lesson is that WE DON'T WANT YOU HERE.

Just kidding. :)

Sorry, I missed this thread. What happened is a bot net attack. And a common method I use to fight botnets is kill anyone not in a chan, as the bots often don't join rooms. Or if they do it takes them a second to all get into the room.

So you were killed with the rest of the botnet. Obviously in this method innocents are always going to get taken. Luckily your only blocked off the network for 30min.

If you are not in a room, and a botnet attack happens this WILL happen again. It is recommended to always be in a room. And if you don't want to be in #definecynical and stuff then you can always join #idle which was designed to be a room you can idle in when you don't want to be in any other rooms.

Otherwise, if you really don't want to be in a room then at least the akill only last for 30min.
cheers.....
