Another recurring theme in the news

Postby Tom Flapwell » Thu May 03, 2007 8:56 pm

In and around 2005, there were a lot of plane crash reports. More recently, there have been a lot of stories about people getting in trouble for keeping more pets than they can handle humanely. Now I realize that I've read stories like this with increasing frequency:
Honestly, That Title Could Go Either Way
Kids watching the Disney Channel's "Handy Manny" cartoon in parts of New Jersey on Tuesday were treated to porn instead, the New York Daily News reported. "What are they doing?" father Paul Dunleavy reported his son as saying when the child saw the explicit sex scene. "I couldn't believe it. We try to do the right thing to protect our kids from this stuff, and then they broadcast it on children's TV.... It was full-on, and it was disgusting." The error was Comcast's, not Disney's, the cable company said. Comcast apologized directly to Dunleavy's family.
Is it all accidental? Or have pornographers been whispering, "Today the Internet, tomorrow the world"?

Wahaha, that's actually pretty funny. I'd rather they watch porn than murder anyway. *mostly serious*

I feel sorry for the poor perverts who were treated to a disney cartoon rather than their expected erotic picture.

Isn't this just an opportunity to explain sexual relationships to your kids?

Yeah . . .

The lesson here, as always: Disney is nothing but trouble. :P

I wonder, if our society gets any more uptight, will we be able to eat near each other? You know, that "disgusting" natural and necessary action.

Hmm, I love how we make things bad: "don't wear a hat inside", "No elbows on the table", "Sex is bad", "the word pants is not appropriate" etc. Hey, does sex actually harm anybody naturally?, does saying "pants"? Or are we just trained by society to find certain things wrong?

It looks like the cable company made a MAJOR goof there. I mean, how could someone make a stupid mistake like that?

As for the underlying issue of how our culture views sexuality, I don't understand the attitude that sexuality is inherently wrong. How could our species' natural method of reproduction be bad? I can understand why a society would want to discourage promiscuity to prevent unexpected pregnancies and the spread of sexually transmitted diseases, but the attitude that sex in general is bad just doesn't hold water in the face of biological necessity. If God didn't want us to have sex, we wouldn't have sex organs.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, I don't think people should go have sex with everyone they can get, either. Besides the risks of disease and life-disrupting prenancies mentioned earlier, it's disrespectful to view members of the opposite sex as being just for one's own pleasure.

I don't think it's that sex is bad, I think it's the people who are mentally sick who go too far with it and end up hurting people physically and mentally. I believe there are a lot of decisions to make regarding sexuality, and I think people believe young children are simply too young to make those decisions responsibly, and therefore don't want children exposed to it.

And it happens more often that you'd think with the wrong shows being broadcast, just usually they aren't inappropriate in nature. I used to to tech support for the very company in question, Comcast, and I got many calls about people seeing the wrong shows, getting the wrong PPV content, etc. I think errors just occur at data centers and hubs along the cable trunk line. I'm not really sure of the specifics, I just know it comes up on occasion.

And besides that, pornos tend not to be well-made even for their intended purpose. I don't blame people for being highly disappointed to see one in place of another program.

The father should be slapped for letting his kid watch that craphole of a channel that is Disney, anyways.

Well, most porns I've seen are pretty pantsless disgusting, not romantic at all, and against everything I believe when it comes to sex. That's why I don't watch them. I look at pictures of nudie women, but I don't watch porn.

I'd rather masturbate with sandpaper.

That last sentence is more disgusting than anything that comes to my mind when I hear "porno."

Maybe that's because I never dared to watch a real one.

You ain't missing much. Some are less erotic than the chest-bursting scene on Alien.

"Daddy, what's a rimshot?"
A rimshot is the act of aiming the shaft of your drumstick at the rim of the drumhead, at the same time allowing the head of the drumstick to come in contact with the head of the drum, creating a very loud sound.

Can be interpreted in two (2) ways.
Who sleeps shall awake, greeting the shadows from the sun
Who sleeps shall awake, looking through the window of our lives
Waiting for the moment to arrive...
Show us the silence in the rise,
So that we may someday understand...
