Phenomonal.

Is he drawing those with markers? Heck, even if he sketches them in pencil first... here I thought he scanned them in then used some Photoshop wizadrly for the line thicknesses - but no, he just, uh, does it.
Naw, he uses Tech pens and a small brush for the flowing lines which looks really awesome IMO. I tried to do it with my comic, but using a brush pen...results varied but generally sucked so now I just use the brush for the speech bubbles.

I wonder if DCS knows that he's inspiring people to draw?

A high level of competence in any skill tends to have that sort of effect on people.

At the very least he influenced me to try my hand at brush. Remember this http://vengencemkii.deviantart.com/art/ ... d-51151511 ? It is my first ink and brush drawing and it wasn't half bad!

That reminds me, I gotta start scanning in some of my stuff, I'm just about able to perfectly emulate the DCS style, so to speak - it's fun, once you get the hang of it, though creating other animals in his style that he hasn't done, making them 'look right' - that can take a bit of work.

So far it's all pencil though, the thought of using ink makes me cringe, heh.

Yep its fun. Also, your Right, Drawing other animals in O&M style requires lots of work. So now i'm basically stuck in drawing O&M style foxes.

Yes, I do know that, and it makes me happy. :)

And also, yes, I ink with a small brush, mostly, with technical pens for things like lettering and shading. I draw on bristol board, because on it ink doesn't bleed.

I took up using a brush about ten years ago, when I was in college and still just experimenting with comics. It's hard, and frankly it was a long time before I was any good at it, but so many artists whose lines I admired--Bill Watterson (Calvin and Hobbes), Walt Kelly (Pogo), Jeff Smith (Bone)--used them that I wanted to be able to, and so I kept doing it, and, really, there's nothing that looks quite like a brushed ink line.

so looks like I'm out of luck.

If I can swallow my pride enough, maybe some time I'll show you what MY brush lines looked like at first. It isn't pretty.

Heck, just check out my first try at drawing Ozy and Millie over in the fanart section - it's all squiggles! Just, I guess, if you put enough squiggles together, kinda sqint, tilt your head and sneeze, it looks like it's supposed to, heh.

For inking though, I've just started learning calligraphy - might want to give that a try, it has some great exercises for making those small motions in clear, controllable was through repitition of basic forms.

TRUTH!

I do most of my work in "Podunk U" with Sharpies. Supplemented by a UniBall Vision Micro for far-away stuff and details. It's amazing how decent of a line quality you can get from such cheap tools.
