Cafe Press Store... Ideas?
I know that we need to wait for 5hfifty to get back, but I say we might as well start getting this out on the table now. Money things should be discussed, but let's keep that part out of it for a little bit.

Cafe press store, good idea? bad idea? would you buy something? would you create something? would you get others to buy or design? would you forget about it entirely?

Personally, I think its a great idea. I already have an idea for a shirt design, and have started laying out its design. Actually, it's about "the Thingy" thread, and if we decide as a whole to get a cafe press acct., i would make two, possibly three others, all based off of "events" that took place in that thread!

In any case, i would buy stuff off of the cafepress acct. It seems like its to good to pass up!

That's why from a legal perspective that we contact and set some deal with DC Simpson. He does automaticly won anythign he makes even if he doesn't register it. There would be some amount of royalties required but I'm sure we can work things out with DC Simpson if we decide to go.

My problem is I'm not sure who would be interested. I'm not sure how much I would by. I'm a Schwab and I've been raised to never buy anything. I try to break that but that's still a part of me.

I would volunter my time to take care of some of the administrative aspects of it though. I think that this is wworth my time. Even if it ends up failing. I'll take a look into how cafe press handles stores sometime this weekend and report back here.

I would cheerfully create things for this endeavor... That is, if I had some idea what to create (Inspiration is elusive). Buying? Probably. It all depends on too many independant variables for me to make a concrete statement. However, I thought a number of people expressed the opinion that Cafe Press took too high a percentage. What are the alternatives?

Cafepress might be the best deal that's available...I'll do some digging around and see what I can find, though.

I'm not sure this idea would work in any form, seeing as it's all artwork based on DC Simpson's copyrighted material. The only way to do so would to make sure DC approves of it, he is granted fair compensation by his standards, and that it does not break any contractual agreements already made. There's probably more to it than that, but that's about all I know about the matter.

I'd say that the only stuff we could possibly sell without having to resort to all those issues would be our own unrelated artwork. Of course, that defeats the whole purpose of the idea.

Does anyone think we could submit designs to Simpson to help expand his product line? Or is that a bad idea?
I think somebody needs to try and talk to DC Simpson about this before we go any further. I'll wirte up a letter later on today and post it here for anyone else to coment on. We shoudl also wait for 5hifty to return and coment on it before sending it.

I agree with both the letter and waiting for 5hfifty, but 5hfifty had said to me that he wanted to discuss it here before approaching simpson with it. So, we've got a little over a month left before we should contact simpson, for 5hfifty's sake. If 5hfifty gets online before that point, well then maybe the time will come sooner! To be on the safe side though, expect about 1 &1/2 months.
