I don't know that much about sports but I think it was like we had the big scary steroids football first and called it football because nobody played soccer over here yet so then the nice football came over and we couldn't call it football since we already had one and then they fought (the sports themselves did, not any actual people) and since the american football was on steroids and had two pointy ends it bit itself until the ends were sharp and pointy and then it deflated the round football and uh... that actually made some kind of sense even though it wasn't true at all ^___^
