The link to the chat doesn't work for me. I'm not really sure why exactly either.
It won't work in a normal web page... You need a chat client such as mIRC, X-Chat, or Chatzilla [Just to name a few] to make that link work, or use the Java applet at the top of the DC page [if the Java applet page is still there, it may have been removed].
This signature may spontaneously combust at any given moment. Make sure there's a fresh can of gasoline handy.

I'd also recommend Trillian if you're looking for someting generally useful.
I on the other hand recommend gaim instead. I did not like using multi-chat programs for IRC though, so I got mIRC.

I'd recommend mIRC. its a bit complicated but the features are good when you figure them out
