When I was young (and maybe a little bit still today), I always wanted a basement for the express purpose of filling it with water and swimming in it.

I had a basement but it never filled with enough water to be any fun, plus the water was backed up sewage.

I live in Florida so if a basement was filled with water, the state would sink.
It's a Taoist concept that Llewellyn is espousing here: you don't know, at the time, whether an event is good or bad or, more likely, mixed, so it's healthy to just accept what arises.
And Millie is the sort of person who makes things arise.

Two basement floods in my bungalow over the past couple of months due to excessively heavy rains which also flooded other people, as well as the rivers and streets.

Also, if it filled with water you'd have alligators.

Yeah, and I'm all out of harpoons. I'd be sunk. All washed up, if you will.
