I suppose Avery's final line is a bit nonsensical, now, but at the time there was a series of ads for one of the big clothing chains -- The Gap, I think -- where people danced weirdly in front of white backgrounds.
The concept of weird ads is timeless, I think.

Those ads DCS mentioned remind me of those stupid Ipod commercials with silhouettes dancing on solid color backgrounds, or most apple commercials in general...

That was the first thing I thought of, but I also remember those GAP commercials with the people and the dancing.

What is up with people dancing on flat backgrounds that makes people think "This will surely sell!"
