So I thought the first panel had Ms. Mudd rushing into Millie's room holding a half-peeled banana until I noticed the clock hands.

I could tell it was a clock right away, in the context of the picture if nothing else. This particular strip is a clever one.

Roehke's "The Waking" was at the time my favorite poem. Still is, really.

At the time I fancied strips like this a sort of rebuttal to the endless video game and B-movie references I saw in other online strips. There's a whole culture out there, people.
Good to know.

I can agree with promoting references to more traditional pieces of culture.
