I feel like DCS is trying to be snarky but this doesn't make sense.

A reaction to an actual bumper sticker, which is always a risky proposition -- bumper stickers don't, as a rule, present enough of an argument for refuting them to really be worth anyone's time.
I tried to make Avery's response reflect the same simplemindedness as the original slogan, only carried to more of an extreme. I'm not sure it really worked, but my American flag backgrounds had certainly improved.
I guess you don't think much of the locavore (buying food from local producers) movement either?DCS is pointing out the silliness in thinking that domestic produce is good and foreign produce is evil. Encouraging people to buy American hurts trade elsewhere, but people tend to only see so far.
This is the first thing I thought of, too, when I read the comic and started anticipating responses to it. The principles of buying local can apply to all sorts of products, not just food, though food is the major one.locavore (buying food from local producers) movement
