The line was crossed a long time ago. There was an actual advertisement by Bennetton (the clothing company) showing then-President Reagan with Karposi's sarcoma, somehow intended to advertise jeans. There were very angry protests, all right-coming from AIDS activists. Definitely one of the dumb-dumb advertisements of all time. :roll:

This is one of the strips I remember as making me laugh to tears when I first discovered the comic and was reading through the archives. It's still funny to me.

I always wanted to be the sort of cartoonist who invents words. This was an early attempt at it.

I had a stronger anti-commercialism bent in those days. I'm still mostly against it, but by now I've had some years of having the importance of sometimes making money drilled firmly into me.
