But he could have done much more. Feinted being hit, then sprung at the last moment and start shooting back while shouting his own weird science, dogding and blasting and they would have had an epic space laser battle with the other kids being hapless aliens running in terror and the playground swings and slides transformed into fantastical other wordly architecture and bizarre landscapes they would traverse until they ran out of breath and slumped on the ground, both still directing their weapons at each other, waiting in several suspense filled panels for their opponent to fall down tired first and rush haphazardly together laughing all the way to the class they're now late to.
But that's not Ozy. Ozy is the kind of kid who plays along according to his own rules and his own logic; to feign being dead and then spring up zapping would defy who he is. He wants to play with her, but not this particular game, so he contorts it to his own way of playing; something of a logic puzzle, or a little way to push buttons. He doesn't want to run around and get sweaty and hot and sticky and gross, but he does want to interact, he doesn't want to be lonely, and he still wants to be himself.
To have this happen would be in defiance of
him. And that's just terrible.
