First off, too much buddy, it's just a comic no need to write a thesis on it.And Ozy is clearly not trying at all to make him feel better about the situation. He's got his nose in a book and is humming 'Ice Ice babby' as a subtle jab at Avery. He's certainly not listening to him, despite having been literally right there when everybody else left.
...
They tolerate him. They don't seem to be friends in any real sense of the word; they all happen to share a lunch table (with Stephan, too, whom I'm also pretty sure they aren't exactly enamored with).
Secondly, they do more than tolerate him. It doesn't go with Ozy's personality to treat him like that. He's honest with everyone, even his best friend Millie. Sometimes he makes a little jab to emphasises his point more, gets that from his father probably.
They do more than tolerate Stephan too, they went out of their way to go to California to bring him back after his delusions of get rich quick in the internet boom. That's more than his own father did.
