Watterson didn't overuse Moe (the name of the Calvin and Hobbes bully).I have no problem with a character being shallow and just a way to make a joke. You have to recognize as a creator the limitations of that character and not over use them. Jeremy has basically one joke and he gets used way too much. Compare this to the bully in Calvin and Hobbes who is basically the same as Jeremy and I can only recall being in maybe five strips.

Hmm, maybe I'm misremembering but I think Moe might have been used more than Jeremy. It's been years since I read my Calvin and Hobbes books, but he's certainly not a minor character.I have no problem with a character being shallow and just a way to make a joke.
