*embarrassed!* Wow. I'm dumb. I glanced at the colour of Aeron's avatar, looked only at the first letter, and immediately thought of Angela. Also, it seems like something Angela would post. :C
Despite that, I don't take back what I said. I still love her. c:
I also love Aeron for posting that video though. Haha.

What a lot of people don't seem to know is that I Am the Walrus is one of those silly novelty songs. Lennon himself acknowledged writing deliberately nonsense lyrics (some inspired from nursery rhymes I think) after hearing about people who were going through Beatles songs looking for hidden messages. It wasn't meant to be taken seriously, it was just the Beatles messing with their "devoted" fans.

When humor columnist Dave Barry once held a contest where reader chose the worst recent song of all time(excluding novelty songs), this was the winner:

Yes, "Mac Arthur Park" by Richard Harris-the same Richard Harris who acted in the "Harry Potter" movies. Even Segovia has to admit this is a dumber song than anything by the Beatles.

MacArthur Park was written by Richard Harris after he bet a friend that he could write a hit song using nonsense lyrics. See, Harris was convinced that people who liked rock and roll never actually listened to the lyrics but were more concerned with the music. The song was a huge hit for him and has gone on to be recorded by everyone from Andy Willams to Donna Summer!When humor columnist Dave Barry once held a contest where reader chose the worst recent song of all time(excluding novelty songs), this was the winner:

One cannot deny that whatever you think of MacArthur Park's lyrics, the music is indeed very good!

That is true. The song also contained bits of unfinished songs he wrote under the influence of certain mood changing things he had ingested. While quoting "I am the Walrus" works fine for the strip part of me wishes that a John Lennon song that wasn't intentionally silly had gotten refrenced. There are plenty of stupid John Lennon songs that weren't suppose to be stupid, including all the non choras lines of "Give Peace a Chance"

The only parts of the song I actually like, mostly because they're pretty unintelligible.all the non choras lines of "Give Peace a Chance"

As a song I didn't like "Give Peace a Chance" at all, really.
So who's the one that's going to call me a dick.
So who's the one that's going to call me a dick.
Who sleeps shall awake, greeting the shadows from the sun
Who sleeps shall awake, looking through the window of our lives
Waiting for the moment to arrive...
Show us the silence in the rise,
So that we may someday understand...

I like it fine until the oh-so brilliant idea of the last three minutes being nothing but the chorus.As a song I didn't like "Give Peace a Chance" at all, really.

I love "MacArthur Park" and I'm not afraid to admit it. It rather harks back to what we were talking about in the 'music/lyrics' thread - the lyrics appear meaningless, yes, but they sound meaningful when put to music, especially when Richard Harris sings them on his album A Tramp Shining. Beautiful. ;_;When humor columnist Dave Barry once held a contest where reader chose the worst recent song of all time(excluding novelty songs), this was the winner:

Also, it was written by Jimmy Webb.

Interesting about Jimmy Webb writing MacArthur Park. I've seen various interviews through the years with Richard Harris where he claimed that HE wrote MacArthur Park. Of course, RH was prone to drinking and had an ego the size of Mt. Everest so it's possible he was lying his ass off. I still liked him.
BTW, Richard Harris HATED playing Dumbledore. His agent told him the only way out of his contract would be to die. Seems like RH thought that was a good idea! LOL!

I'm actually not a big fan of Lennon's music or The Beatles. Heh, heres the lyrics for "Happy Family", a King Crimson song about The Beatles breaking up:As a song I didn't like "Give Peace a Chance" at all, really.
So who's the one that's going to call me a dick.
Judas= McCartney
Rufus= Ringo
Silas= Harrison
Jonah= Lennon
(Fripp/Sinfield)
Happy family, one hand clap, four went by and none come back.
Brother Judas, ash and sack, swallowed aphrodisiac.
Rufus, Silas, Jonah too sang, "We'll blow our own canoes,"
Poked a finger in the zoo, punctured all the ballyhoo
Whipped the world and beat the clock, wound up with their share of stock.
Silver Rolls from golden rock, shaken by a knock, knock, knock.
Happy family, wave that grin, what goes round must surely spin;
Cheesecake, mousetrap, Grip-Pipe-Thynne cried out, "We're not Rin Tin Tin."
Uncle Rufus grew his nose, threw away his circus clothes
Cousin Silas grew a beard, drew another flask of weird
Nasty Jonah grew a wife, Judas drew his pruning knife.
Happy family one hand clap, four went on but none came back
Happy family, pale applause, each to his revolving doors.
Silas searching, Rufus neat, Jonah caustic, Jude so sweet.
Let their sergeant mirror spin if we lose the barbers win;
Happy family one hand clap, four went on but none came back
