I think at the time DCS was under the impression that Ozy was a wolf.

What gets me is that Stephan implies that being adopted is a stigma.

I think its more that its a potentially awkward subject to bring up, especially if you're not sure whether or not the parent has had the "you're adopted" talk with them yet. Also, he needs to know if Ozy is secretly a dragon.

At least one reader did not get that Ozy was kidding in this strip, and wrote me asking why I never did more strips exploring Ozy's were-dragon-ness.

In terms of plausibility, remember that Ozy is actually the son of the Ice Cream Messiah.

IIRC, DCS stated one time that Ozy was a wolf untill a friend said that Ozy more resembled an artic fox. From that point on, Ozy was a fox.

But as far as this early strip goes, Ozy is indeed a wolf.

Later Ozy comes out of the closet as a fox but at this point he is just fox-curious
