I THINK I know what it is, but I could just be forcing it to fit. I dunno. I never was really sure.
This also reminds me of a
couple of good bash.org
quotes...

That was my guess as well.
SMB1 Level Theme.

I don't think it is. The SMB theme starts with 'DA-DA DAT DA-DA DAAT BOOP'

Ironicly, I think my favourite rendition of that theme is the unaccompanied male voice choir one in the pure platforming goodness cave levels in Super Mario Sunshine.
Which, assuming these two are in tune, would probably be the closest approximation to what they're doing.
Only with more "do" and less "dat" and "boop"
And is reminiscent of the time me and someone in real life spontainiously dueted one of the FF victory fanfares.
And then tried to figure out which one we were singing.

In the series of reruns with DCS comments, it is identified as the SMB theme. We just didn't come in soon enough for the opening notes.
That has to be easily the most widely recognized theme in video game history.

Has anyone ever thought of writing lyrics to that?

Who doesn't love MIDI-tunes that will make a person go absolutely crazy after listening to them for more than ten minutes?
Not that System Shock didn't have some very neat MIDI-music though
EDIT: I guess Mario used some NES music system though, but my point stands
