So, WHAT is UP with these constant downtimes?

Srsly, what is up with them. Are we getting cut off for exceeding our allotted bandwidth, or is the server just crashing all the time? Come to think of it, where is our server and who's running it right now? I'm terribly behind on these things; the last thing I remember was that jent or baloki was hosting us.

I thought Jason was hosting the server, and he USED to have it on a different server but that server died. The one that he's been running the website on since then is crappy and so it crashes a lot or something.

As far as I'm aware what is happening is that the current server is somewhat dodgy and prone to crashes and the like. Quite often the services go down for no apparent reason, and the clock sets itself incorrectly on seemingly random occasions.
Hopefully Jason will get a new server or reinstall or something.

The server we were on up until a month or two ago died when Jason attempted an OS upgrade that ended up screwing everything up beyond repair. Thus, the one we're on is more of a backup server.

That's why we have downtime, this site is hosted on a residential connection.

That's part of the reason. This is, we think, why you get that somewhat intermittent temporary downtime where you can't connect until you resend the request. The long downtimes are due to server issues, as detailed.

Also, I can confirm that Shaw sucks.

The downtime has been distancing me from the site more and more. The only reason I've been able to get posts in is because there's a 50/50 chance it works in the morning, and even then I'm rushing to school (like now), so I can't post more than once or twice. At least there's IRC.

well the LATEST downtime has been because Jason wasn't home to fix the server, we had a warning this would happen

hopefully it won't be so bad now

Lulz, Osprey.
The computer that Jason has the server running on right now is pretty unreliable (duurrr). From what I've gathered, he needs to constantly press a button to keep it running or otherwise it'll go idle and not work. As of right now, he is having family do it for him every morning. Jason will be home tonight, so there won't be as many downtimes and the downtimes won't be as long.
So don't lose hope guise ):

I think you can fix that under the Power Management settings.

Tell him to buy a real server.
