I'm not sure how many of you know, but in a month and a bit (5th of October to be exact) DC will be a year old, and I reckon it'd be great to do something to acknowledge it and all the great members here.

So, put your ideas forward! I want to try and keep it between us, surprises are much nicer.

Hmmm.

How about the first annual define cynical award ceremony where we give awards to the members. For example.. most posts, Best avatar, Craziest member, Best quote, blah blah blah.

I've wanted to do this for 9 months

We would need a temporary forum that would have a topic for each category...
Everyone says the name of the member they want to nominate and the top 5 get a poll.. or somthing..

I think that would be funs.

How about we work on getting an update to the main/about pages to have some form of online yearbook/scrapbook? We can present highlights of the year as suggested by members and staff (as well as where to find them in the forum, if applicable), and with the members doing some of the writing, it spares us some of the work.

Any chance we could have an interview between 5hfifty and Simpson using questions prepared by our staff and members for the occasion? It might be nice if we could reassert our ties to the author of these fine strips once again.

Then again, I would also like to remind you all that this site has developed into something greater than some product of fandom. Perhaps a topic could be prepared as a kind of time capsule, where we can post our hopes and ambitions for the next year, things we are doing right now, what is popular, what is not, and then lock it until the start of year 3, or later (hopefully with a better backup, so that we do not lose it in another server crash.)

I think I would like to see (and hopefully make!) some special artworks to celebrate the site's birthday, but it doesn't have to be a competition, maybe just an open invite to draw to your heart's content.

If we do plan on getting some form of scrapbook together by October, it'd be a good idea to start nominating some favorite moments amongst ourselves now then find out what other people thought would like to see.

The easiest way to nominate moments is to list them in a new topic here. Once we have that down, we can find out what other members considered a favorite moment of this past year by striking up a "casual" conversation in chat, reviewing polls and make heavy use of the search tool.

Oh, and if you can't remember where or when something happened, it's early enough that we don't ave to worry about trying to find out everything. I'm sure if one of us can't find something, someone else might know how to find it with the appropriate reminder.

EDIT: By the way, I think Sabre's ADCLNAC idea is excellent and would greatly complement this other task.

Don't worry about it yet then Sabre.. take care and be safe. Your well-being is too important. You can pick this up again and rant about our progress when the storm has passed.

Whoa, procrastination has caught up with us! If we're getting a scrapbook by the 4th or 5th we better get something drawn up this weekend. If you can, think about notable moments to write about, or locate them... Some I might want to include are

The day Simpson first linked here, making it official and sending swarms of fans (easy to look up, since that's the day I joined, and a heckuva lot of others, too)

The Halloween fan art contest, which helped gain some publicity

Thanksgiving contest, not quite as exciting, but it did bring in some more art

Colorizing and 'House Rules', one of the best spinoffs of this forum ever.

The origins of 'sploding, and "ooh... Shiney!" Highly debateable who brought that here first, but it looks like it had to be either FoxChild or Penguinita.

The first major post war. People earning three pips overnight. Fun.

Forum Games. Yeah. We weren't going to repeat THAT night's events again.

Current Strips, all about finding a place to share the regularly reposted strips and to help us tie in with the comic strip itself.

The Airport, which has since been a good place to see the comings and goings of the members. It gave us a lot more unity.

Staff vacations, which were running rampant, and resulted in some being tied to chairs

The Landing Strip

FC volunteering to be a temp mod, then becoming promoted to full-time

The Christmas contest

Hobo redefining forever what it means to 'splode

Free T-shirts for avatars, another chapter in the great T-shirt plot!

Valentine Contest

The great forum quake of 2004! And the temporary relief in another board and in #definecynical

Easter Contest

Video game contest

The great site icon hunt

Wow, you pretty much summarised the whole year there!

Now, schools starting for me in a day, and I'm never going to get time to do it before the 5th. I'm sorry and I feel bad about this but I'll need someone here to do a big favor for me and, if this is going to get done, someone else has to do it.

I'll still try and find contributions and all. For now, how about the "Word Association!" thread in forum games? Undoubtly the largest post on this board.

That's a good one to add. Thanks very much, 5hfifty!

And by the way, I know this anniversary date is a quiet one.. more people might recognize the date DC linked to it better, so there is some fudge factor if we really can't finish this this weekend. I will try to do what I can though so we can have something to make public for the official anniversary.

This is my plan: Get as much together as we mods can this weekend, and then publish a topic on the anniversary with what we have. Once that has been done, we can recruit members to throw in what they want. Finally, on October 13, the anniversary of the date DC first linked the site, we can close the topic and have a finalized scrapbook page.
