I have a symbol of my own... I'm sorry to say it's not quite origional, I really wish it was, I'm in the middle of convincing myself that I saw it once before where I can't remember where and remembered it by accident like the one before the "I know this looks bad, but" rerun.

yes, I know that made no sense. read it again and it will.

At least it's underused enough to have the smell of origionality, if not the actual aura.
No, I'm not talking about coca cola or pepsi or whichever it is..

himitsu for now norse. I should probably get a name change for the full effect, but I like iyestorm, as it was my very first net name. I used it back before I knew how to use my brain at 40-45% efficiency. so I guess I should just make another account... naw. I like being iyestorm, but the full effect depends on the name.

maybe I'll just use it as my chat nick. of course, that would require enough courage to push the button.

Take an image and upload it under "My Controls" and "Avatar settings. There's a guide somewhere. I made mine in MS Paint. Mosst people crop thirs but the site will scale down the image if it's to large.

Yes. Click on My Controls. Under the pannel at the right where it says personal info click on Avatar setings. You get an option of linking to it or uploading it. Click on browse by the upload prompt and find the image file. Click on update Avatar.

As a bonus, I also took the liberty of making the background transparent. I had to guess at the exact colors by sampling the upper right arrow's tail lines and the upper left arrow's background.

I prefer GIF files for these types of designs since they are more efficient when you only need a few colors and you do not want to sacrifice image sharpness.

Can't you have real transparency in your GIFs?
Get a new GIF animator I say.

Thanks Tavis. The thing is most places don't alow me to upload gifs. That's why I encode them as jpegs. I think gif's take up more space but I realy don't know what I'm talking about. What you did looks great. The line color is a little off but otherwise I like it.

There dosn't seem to be the problem with the darker color scheem. *shrugs*

GIFs work better with images that use few colors and don't do photos well, but they are better for avatar-size stuff and just about anything you can draw in Paint. If you are scanning stuff in full color, working with photos, or working with lots of gradients, JPEG works better. Be warned, though, that the format is lossy, so you should keep originals handy for editing and save JPEG copies when you actually upload something to minimize cumulative image degredation.

So that's the infamous dark avatar. It does strike me as rather German...
