Anybody out there care to help a fool?

Postby Tabris_The_17th » Wed Sep 06, 2006 4:04 am

I have a favor to ask a kind soul who amy be able to help me out. I've been trying to get myself in the chatroom for a while now but to no avail. I've downloaded a few of the IRC chat programs that supposedly allow you to get in there, but for the life of me I can't get them to work. Despite my years of experience with computers and the internet, I have to admit I'm a tad stumped.

So, that leads me to my question: Do any of you guys know a really good tutorial for one of the chat programs I could look at? Or, if you're extremely kind, might be willing to talk to me on AIM or something and explain how you use the program? I would greatly appreciate it. Perhaps I could owe you a fanart or something for the effort (not that I'm the greatest artist in the world or anything, but it's something to offer, right?)

So, in closing: HELP! :locke:

I use mIRC. It says the program is trial, but it lets you continue using it after the trial expires. Simply install mIRC, make an account, log in, and click on the link on the top of the forum pages. If you run into trouble, just let me know, I unfortunately don't have AIM (too much crap comes with it), so I can't help you over that.

Edit: There's also a tutorial on setting up mIRC on their website.

Tabris_The_17th, there are many ways depending on which IRC client you use. The key information you need to know to connect to the IRC server are:

Server: main.acidchat.net
Port: 6667

Also, be sure to enter some user name so you don't get a generic client-created one. If you don't like it, you can always change it with /nick username, substituting username with what you want to call yourself.

Once you are signed on, you can type /join #definecynical or add it to your contact list (if you are using an IM client like Gaim or Trillian)

If you are still having problems, you can try other ports (such as 7000) or other servers on Acidchat's network (nl.acidchat.net, spicylemons.acidchat.net, etc.)

If you are still having problems, just hunt one of us down and send us an instant message or PM. :)

If you're using Firefox you can download Chatzilla. Specify a username from the preferences option in the Chatzilla tab (and other various information if you want to). It's very straightforward as all the major options are specified in that tab clearly.

The only thing you have to do to connect to the Define Cynical channel is click the chat link at the top of the page and it'll take you there directly.
